OH YES. Above: Me at the Team Macho hiding spot of piece #4, and then me SUPER PUMPED at my awesome painting. Yeah, I'm bragging, but I believe it is justified! I've been fruitlessly Team Macho Scavenging for weeks, only to realize after my searches that the works had already been discovered. And so I set out on a journey into the depths of (gasp) North York and swore to not return until I was +1 Macho points.
  The clues sent me to a massive bridge, and my instinct was to search below, and so I trekked to the river below and spent half an hour climbing rafters (while wearing spandex) and poking through hobo-caches. I must admit there was doubt in the air whether I would ever be successful when I opened a suitcase to find a soiled blanket and a pair of handcuffs.
  Morale was low, and I had almost given up when it started to spit rain. I climbed out of the valley with my head hung low. Crossing the bridge back to my parked bike, I peeked over the edge... and Lo! There it was! To "you <3"! That's me!
  I am overjoyed. The world is a brighter place.

  Let's go get a beer, everybody!

DAN MANGAN

Spent the night searching out an elusive Dan Mangan secret show. The Toronto Institute for the Enjoyment of Music was kind enough to host Mangan and his backing band, the Crackling, for a night of sweaty tunes played to the sixty people that fit into the venue, and those who watched from the storefront window. The night culminated in a sing-along on the Queen West streets and a take-over of the sidewalk. I think it could be accurately summarized by Mangan's bassist when he said "I don't think I have ever been so moist."

I never did post this... For what it is, I think it turned out alright, but I'm finding that gouache has become more of a sketching media for me, and I prefer the look of a finished acrylic painting. Next step is likely playing with retarders to make painting in an air-conditioned house bearable.

My newest painting, measuring about 18"x24", it's not a huge image but it's very important in terms of my personal exploration. Working at Pentimento Gallery this summer has really lit a fuse under my butt, and motivated me to paint when I could so easily be lazing around. 30+ degrees is a good reason to feel like doing shit-all, but it's an even better reason to be in a basement studio with the AC on.

In working with Pentimento Fine Art Gallery this summer, I've been put in charge of a gallery show/contest. There's a full write-up on the Blog page, but the cliff notes are as follows:

- Building owner Brad Daniels in conjunction with Pentimento Fine Art Gallery run an annual contest where the winning image is displayed as a 10'x14' canvas mural in the heart of Leslieville.
- We need your submissions to make this show happen
- Call to artists is completely open and free.
- Chance to show in a gallery and potentially sell work/win $500

nuit blanche lifedrawing

Nuit Blanche was last weekend, and despite the maddening masses of people i managed to find a couple of events that kept my interest. Highlights were a grindhouse movie trailer exhibition at the Tiff Lightbox, and a lifedrawing session presented by The Keyhole Sessions. The girls were posing in a giant 'cage' in the middle of the room and posing 5-6 at a time in bondage with aviary-themed costumes. It was pretty wild - I only got a couple sketches in before they closed up, but maybe I'll go back.

If anyone's interested, they host lifedrawing every tuesday from 8-10 on Queen West. I think it's something like $10 for students.
